How to Measure For Your Curtains

Measuring correctly ensures your curtains hang beautifully and fit perfectly. Please follow the guide that applies to your space.

To order your curtains, you only need two measurements:

  1. Width – the width of your rod, rail, or track

  2. Drop (Length) – the height from where the curtain hangs to where you want it to finish

Our calculator takes care of fullness automatically.

Tip: Always measure in centimetres and round up rather than down.

Step 1: Measure the Width

(Same method for rods, rails, and tracks)

  • Measure the full usable width of your installed rod, rail, or track.

  • Do not include decorative finials at the ends.

  • Measure the hardware, not the window.

This is the width you’ll enter when ordering.

Step 2: Measure the Drop (Length)

The drop is the distance from where the curtain hangs to where you want it to end.

Common finishing points:

  • At the window sill

  • Just below the sill

  • Just above the floor

  • Lightly touching the floor

  • Pooling onto the floor

Where to Measure the Drop From (By Header Style)

Measure from the correct starting point based on your curtain style:

Eyelet (Grommet) Curtains

  • Measure from the top of the rod down to your desired length.

Wave / Ripple Fold (Track)

  • Measure from the hook or carrier inside the track down to your desired length.

Pleated Curtains on Track or Rail

  • Measure from the top of the track or rail down to your desired length.

Rod with Rings (Pleated Curtains on Rings)

  • Measure from the bottom of the curtain ring down to your desired length.

If You Don’t Have a Rod or Track Installed Yet

  1. Choose rod or track height
    • Install it 15–25 cm above the window frame for a taller, more elegant look.

  2. Measure window width
    • Measure the width of the window frame.

  3. Add extra width for curtain stacking

    • Add 15–40 cm on each side of the window.

    • This allows curtains to open fully without blocking light.

  4. Measure the drop

    • Measure from your chosen rod/track position down to your desired curtain length.

Before You Order

  • Your custom curtains will be made to the width and length you specify, with fullness added to the width.

  • Measure width and drop twice for accuracy.

  • Use centimeters.

  • Use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

  • Measure each window or doorway individually.

  • Hardware such as hooks, rods, rails, and rings are sold separately and are not included with curtain purchases.
  • This guide provides general recommendations and may not cover all situations.
